Description
Urinary tract infections are one of the five most common types of healthcare-associated infections (HAI). Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) develop either during or after placement of a urinary catheter. They are associated with increased length of stay, morbidity, mortality, and costs.
This program provides an overview of strategies to prevent CAUTIs, including appropriate indications for insertion of indwelling urinary catheters (IUC), alternatives to indwelling catheters, insertion and maintenance bundles, and antimicrobial stewardship measures.
