Description
Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) present a high risk for morbidity and mortality in the acute care setting. Despite two decades of concerted attempts to avoid CLABSIs, the high-cost healthcare-acquired infection continues to kill a large number of individuals, including children. Central venous catheters are used for various medical reasons, in a variety of clinical settings, and are placed by a variety of trained specialists. Therefore, standardized practices based on the latest clinical evidence must be understood and followed by all healthcare providers.
This education program presents the background, incidence, costs, and prevention strategies that can be leveraged for preventing CLABSI in clinical care settings. Additionally, it will give learners background knowledge of central line use and provide awareness of central line infection risks.
