Description
Disruption of the skin barrier, through mechanical, chemical or biological means, can compromise its integrity and significantly impact the composition and function of the skin microbiome. This educational program will explore how damage to the skin barrier can lead to alterations in the skin microbiome, contributing to conditions such as incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). The intricate relationship between barrier function and microbial ecology will be described and preventative strategies to preserve skin health and improve patient outcomes will be discussed.
