Description
Once thought to be harmless, evidence has proven surgical smoke plume to be a significant occupational health hazard for operating room personnel. Surgical smoke plume presents physical, chemical, and biological hazards for both health care providers and patients. This continuing education activity will review the hazards of surgical smoke plume and risks associated with exposure to surgical smoke plume. Strategies for identifying key stakeholders and their roles in policy development will be discussed along with resources to support the change management during implementation of policies for protecting the surgical team and patients from hazards associated withsurgical smoke plume.
