Description
Syncope is a global health issue, needing a standardized approach to diagnosing, treating, and preventing further events. The costs for syncope in healthcare are a heavy burden on patients, families, payors, and society. These costs add up rapidly when repeat tests are employed with a low diagnostic yield.
In 2018 the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and in 2017 the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) released guidelines focused upon the diagnosis and treatment of syncope. These guidelines provide a step-by-step approach that should be performed for syncope patients of unexplained cause or cardiac-suspected syncope, including best-yield testing and the use of newer technology to detect cardiac-caused syncope.
