Hazardous drugs (HDs) are a necessary piece of providing optimal care to patients in all healthcare settings. Healthcare professionals who handle HDs have a personal responsibility to follow all required and recommended safety practices established to reduce the risks of HDs exposures and the serious health effects that can result. Cancer, spontaneous abortion, fertility issues, and organ toxicity are realities known to develop if HDs safe handling practices are not followed. This education activity provides health care professionals, including those responsible for direct patient care, with the knowledge to understand where HDs exposures can happen, how these exposures can harm staff directly and indirectly, and how personal protective equipment (PPE) can be selected and used, along with other practices to safely handle HDs.
